ALBERTY, ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF THE CHEROKEE NATION attesting to the marital status of WILLIAM P  SHEPPARD of Canadian District Cherokee Nation and MISS MATTIE F JAMES of the United States. This has the EMBOSSED SEAL of the CHEROKEE NATION and bears the signature of B.W.ALBERTY. This measures 8 1/2 inches X 6 1/2 inches. The letter has typical vintage edge and corner wear; it folds up to fit in the envelope, whose cachet is an illustration of SEQUOYAH and is captioned EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT CHEROKEE NATION... TAHLEQUAH, INDIAN TERRITORY... The envelope was opened from the top and is in rough shape being split around the top and left and a bit of the bottom edge. 6 1/2 inches X 3 3/4 inches for the envelope... This is a great piece!
