    Description

Beautiful Old Crow Parfleche Authentic Late 1800’s.
This beautiful Parfleche was described to me as being of Crow origin when I bought it several years ago. However, I do not and cannot guarantee any tribal designation. This simple symmetrical design certainly has many Crow characteristics. Colors are light blue, dark blue, green, yellow, and red. There does appear to be some black in the dark blue outlines. The border is of two touching colors, dark blue and green, with green on the outside. 14” x 28”, probably of elk or rawhide. The mountain motif and sand lizard diamond in the center of the design are all consistent with Crow design motifs as described in Mable Morrows book, “Indian Rawhide”. No painted flaps. Two hole ties which is correct. This is a large heavy older Parfleche. It shows appropriate wear for its age and use with beautiful patina. The paint is worn but the design is still sharp and unaffected. Beautiful craftwomanship made with obvious experience and skill. I was told this was an old barn find and you can see the impression where a paint can or something sat on it for awhile. The scraper marks are obvious. This Parfleche shows actual use. Here’s your chance to own a true relic from a beautiful nomadic culture that time has passed by. There aren’t that many of these and this is a beauty. Needs a new caretaker.
